Norman Baker was found guilty in District Court January 23, 1940. On January 25, 1940, he was sentenced to four years' imprisonment and to pay a fine of $4,000 and was taken in custody by the Marshal. On the same day he gave notice of appeal and made application to the District Court to be released on bail pending appeal. A few days later that application was denied.
