Apellant is a corporation organized under the laws of Switzerland. In 1910 it established a branch office in New York for the transaction of its insurance business in that State and elsewhere in the United States. Both before and during the World War it maintained branches in Germany and transacted business in that country. Its capital stock was largely owned by German nationals.1
