These suits grow out of a collision at about 1:39 a. m. on October 15, 1927, between the steamship Paris of the French Line, while proceeding to sea, and the Norwegian steamship Bessegen, lying at anchor in the Upper Bay of New York City. As a result of the collision, the Bessegen, with a cargo of 30,506 bags of sugar, became a total loss, and seven of her seamen were drowned.
