This is a suit by the United States government against the appellant to recover the sum of $9,000, together with interest and costs. Suit is based upon the following facts:

Prior to April 30, 1920, one George Fick, owner of $3,000 par value registered Victory notes, and one Andrew Cantrall, owner of $6,000 par value of such notes, had deposited the same with the Bank of Jacksonville, state of Oregon, for safe-keeping. Subsequent to...
