Early in May, 1920, De Sousa & Co., a copartnership, as vendors, entered into a contract with Hind, Rolph & Co., a copartnership, as purchasers, for the sale of 500 tons of sugar. On May 20, 1920, in compliance with the contract of sale, the purchasers procured from the Crocker National Bank of San Francisco a letter of credit in the sum of $208,000 in favor of the vendors, in which the bank agreed that it would accept upon presentation...
