Defendant, Anthony Ptak, was charged by indictment with aggravated battery (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 38, par. 12-4(a)), armed violence (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 38, par. 33A-2), and attempted murder (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 38, pars. 8-4, 9-1(a)(1)). Following a jury trial, defendant was acquitted of the offense of attempted murder, but was found guilty of armed violence and aggravated...
