Plaintiff Randall "Tex" Cobb, a former professional boxer and character actor, sued defendant Time, Inc. d/b/a Sports Illustrated ("SI") for libel. The action arose out of an article that appeared in the October 4, 1993 edition of the publication Sports Illustrated, a prominent national sports magazine.
