On October 4, 1994, plaintiffs, Eduardo Melo Ortiz, his wife Celeste Núñez de Melo, and the conjugal partnership formed between them, brought suit against defendant, Banco Popular de Puerto Rico, for damages arising from the bank's countermand of two cashier's checks that it had issued on October 7, 1993.
