This is a malicious prosecution case. The appellee, Shirley Moore, was awarded compensatory damages of $20,000 and punitive damages of $10,000 against the appellant, Yam's, Incorporated (Yam's). Ms. Moore alleged that Yam's maliciously prosecuted her for stealing a washer and dryer she rented from Yam's and later reported stolen from her by a third party.
