Defendant, M.D., was convicted of committing aggravated criminal sexual assault (Ill.Rev.Stat.1991, ch. 38, par. 12-14) by placing his fist into the vagina of his wife, L.D. We refer to defendant and the victim by their initials in order to protect the victim's identity. Defendant was sentenced to a 12-year term of imprisonment.
