After a jury trial, the defendant, Joseph Beringer, was convicted of murder (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1983, ch. 38, par. 9-1(a)) and conspiracy (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1983, ch. 38, par. 8-2(a)) in the shooting death of Joanne Barkauskas. This case is a companion case to People v. Barkauskas (1986), 147 Ill.App.3d 360
